I Used ChatGPT to Design Our Bedroom – Steal My Prompt

You know that moment when you think you’re just going to touch up a paint color and suddenly you’re planning a whole room refresh? Yeah… that happened.

I’ve been itching to give our primary bedroom a little love lately. Nothing wild—just a small refresh. But I want to do something bold without spending a fortune. Enter: ChatGPT DIY Decorator School Room Visualizer.

Yep. I asked ChatGPT to help me plan a moody, cozy, olive green oasis… and it delivered.

Our Bedroom Makeover Plans

I plan to use the color drenching technique—painting the walls, trim, doors, and ceiling the same earthy olive tone. (Still over here staring at paint samples to make a color decision.) Just that one change already makes the whole room feel taller and more dramatic.

I also found the perfect gold crystal dome fandelier to swap out our current ceiling fan. (You know how I love my fandeliers.) Total game changer.

Furniture Makeover Visualizing

But now I’m staring at our old farmhouse-style dresser… and wondering. Do I leave it as-is for contrast? Or give it a mini makeover to match our more modern traditional style now? I’d love your thoughts—comment and help a girl out?

This was the idea my ChatGPT prompt gave me. It’s still not perfect, of course. It puts light fixtures and art in funky places sometimes, but it’s a great place to start.

To be clear, I don’t think ChatGPT can ever truly replace a real human interior designer. But when you’re a homeowner trying to get your ideas out of your head and onto paper—or in this case, screen—it’s a really helpful tool.

Why You Should Use a DIY Room Rendering

I’ve been using AI to generate mood boards and room renderings to help communicate my vision to Robert (he’s a visual guy, and this makes the whole “trust me” part a lot easier). It’s one of several communication tools I recommend in my Design Lab Partner workshop for DIY couples.

If you’re staring down a room makeover and feeling overwhelmed, that’s exactly why I created my DIY Decorator School course. It’s the step-by-step system I wish I had years ago when I first started decorating our home. It walks you through how to:

  • See the full potential of what you already have in your home and how to take advantage of thrifty tricks.
  • Learn how to plan for function, test furniture layouts, know the right measurements, and create a cohesive color palette.
  • Build your confidence to take risk and see the rewards in your home to serve you and your family well.

So if you’re ready to take your home from “I don’t know where to start” to “this feels so us,” I created this course to help you.

  1. Thank you for your Chat GPT guide. I have recently started using it to help the remodeling company I work for give clients the ability to see their spaces transformed. It is great for changing the cabinet color, backsplash, counters, etc. It is not as strong when you try to make tweaks like continue the cabinets on the X side.

Your prompts will be very helpful because the more information you can give Chat GPT, the better the result. Sometime I feel like people need help understanding how to describe their style though. It would be great to see the wording you used to get such a stunning result. That is the piece I am still trying to master. ; )

      1. I tried the link you suggested, and it still didn’t work. I am using Firefox as my browser. So I then tried it in MS Edge, and it worked fine. Thanks for the quick response.

  2. I think every room can use an antique piece. It gives, even a modern space, some character. Keep the bureau!
I might try ChatGPT a try. I’m going more modern but still classic in my guest room. I’m thinking of painting the night tables white for contrast against the grey headboard. Next moment I’m second guessing that thought.

    1. Yes! 100% agree. And definitely know the feeling. Helps a lot to be able to “try on” ideas. We plan to keep the bureau; I’m just going to freshen it up with hardware and paint. Some of the drawers and pulls are currently broken, so I have to give it some love anyway.

  3. I used it for my bedroom and living room. There wasn’t much change to the way I have my bedroom styled and the colors. As far as the living room, it did give me some interesting ideas. It was fun!

  4. You should look at Essex green(BM) I have absolutely fallen in love with this color, so much so my husband said he’s afraid to stand still, that he gets painted with this color 😉

      1. Would love to know what green you pick! Trying to pick an olive green for my bedroom. Thanks for always sharing.

        1. Thanks! I think I have it narrowed down between Sherwin Williams Garden Gate and Benjamin Moore Vintage Vogue. So many pretty greens out there; it’s hard to pick just one.
